The first work shop for social computing and media.

The workshops take place in the Newstead building.

We explored certain software used in the creating of an app. The work I was doing was quite new to me and I felt I was learning a lot.
We were using MIT app inventor.

Shane was present for this class and explaining a bit about how to use it which I found very helpful.
We set up how our app would be displayed as we create it on an android device or emulator and started building the app named 'Hellopurr'.

This is the same software that we would be using for the creating of the app for our group projects. Therefore I found this particular class extremely helpful.

Week 2-

In preparation for this weeks class, I completed 2 readings-
one being:

'The truth in the Age of Social Media: A Social Computing and and Big Data Challenge'
I found this reading very interesting as it discusses different aspects of social media and 'how journalists today expose manipulations and find reliable voices in the crowd.'

The other reading was 'The Credibility of Volunteered Geographic information'
it was all about crowdsourcing.

This lecture we began by discussing what we did in week one and a little more on our group projects. The lecture then went on to outline the different forms of communication; traditional communication that includes face-to-face, telephone and letters. Semi Traditional communication includes email, online chat and the mobile phone. Social media contexts, integrated means e.g. Facebook, web conferencing. In our first week we did not have a face to face elab!

Instead, we had to complete 2 online tutorials that were to be done at home.
The tutorials were:
How to collaborate effectively and How to create a blog. I completed both tutorials and made sure to get 100% in the quiz at the end.

This was a good start to the module and taught me how to create my blog which would contribute to my grade!
